Blue Seal Certificate

Athabasca University is an approved provider of online courses for the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training Achievement in Business Competencies (Blue Seal) program. The online Blue Seal certificate requires completion of four, 3-credit courses chosen from approved subject areas. AU’s online business courses can fulfill Blue Seal requirements PLUS transfer into a full credit certificate or degree program. Students are able to take four Alberta Learning approved courses through Athabasca University by choosing courses from our list of Business and Administrative Studies. You will note that the list provided by Alberta Learning is not an exact match with our list of courses. We suggest that you choose the Athabasca University courses, and then have your selections confirmed by Alberta Learning prior to registering.

Build business into your career online at Athabasca University.

The Achievement in Business Competencies (Blue Seal) program recognizes Alberta-certified trade and occupational certificate holders who supplement their trade skills with business credentials.

Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training awards a Blue Seal certificate upon completion of 150 hours of study in one or more of their approved subject areas. A combination of any four undergraduate business courses (45 hours each) at Athabasca University (for 180 hours) exceeds the Blue Seal 150 hour requirement. Students can earn their Blue Seal, and apply their four AU courses towards a certificate or degree.

Benefits of having your Blue Seal

The combination of trades and business knowledge signified by Blue Seal accreditation is a valuable asset to trades employers when recruiting to fill supervisory and management positions. Some course combinations can also be a stepping stone for those who want to start their own businesses.

Benefits of studying with AU

AU offers fully accredited online university courses so you can fit your education into your busy life. Undergraduate program admission and course registrations are offered year-round, and courses start every month—register for a course by the 10th of any month, and you can start as early as the first day of the next. Plus, our student support centre staff are there to help you every step of the way.

Individuals possessing a valid Alberta Journeyman Certificate, an Alberta Occupational Certificate, or a document indicating that the individual holds a certificate that is recognized as equivalent to an Alberta trade or occupational certificate are eligible to receive a Blue Seal.
